BJ’s Coupon Policy Update (and great news!)

It was brought to my attention last month that I was basing my BJ’s matchups on an old coupon policy. Yikes!! It’s true, the policy that was on the BJ’s site was changed over the summer, and stated that only one BJ’s coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon could be used together. But here’s the good news…On November 1st, BJ’s updated their policy again. We can once again use multiple manufacturer’s coupons with a BJ’s coupon!

The link to the updated BJ’s coupon policy is here.

Here is some additional clarification, which I have copied from an e-mail I received from BJ’s Customer Care on 10/28/10:

We appreciate your interest in BJ’S savings!  Here is a video with some tips on using coupons at BJ’S: http://il.youtube.com/user/BJsWholesaleClub.  I’ve also copied the tips from that video at the bottom of this email.

Currently we are in the process of updating the coupon information on BJs.com.  It should be up to date in no more than a couple weeks.  Once it is updated, we recommend that you and your readers check the Help section on our website for the most current information on coupons.

With any more specific questions, it’s always best to check with the Club since keeping track of coupons is their responsibility.  Again, thanks so much for your interest!

Coupon tips:

BJ’S is the only wholesale club to accept manufacturers’ coupons.

  • When purchasing a multi-pack of “individual for sale” packaged items, which is a set of items that could be sold individually (each item has a barcode) shrink-wrapped and sold together, shoppers can combine one BJ’S-issued coupon with  manufacturers’ coupons. However, you cannot exceed the actual retail price in the total value of coupons.
  • Examples of a multipack:
    • Three-pack of toothpaste
    • Two-pack of salad dressing
    • Three-pack of taco kits
  • Examples of products that are NOT a multipack:
    • Box of cereal that contains two bags (the bags cannot be sold individually)
    • Case of water
    • Case of soda
    • Case of motor oil
  • Members may also use one BJ’S coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon on a single item.
  • In terms of manufacturer’s coupons that are ‘buy one, get one free’ BJ’S will honor the coupon for items in stock as long as BJ’S price does not exceed the maximum value stated on the coupon.  If the manufacturer’s coupon does not state the maximum value then BJ’S can not honor the coupon.
  • BJ’S cannot accept multiple BJ’S-issued coupons on a product.

And here is some more information that I received from my local store manager.  These policies are most likely universal, but always check with your local store if you have any questions!

  • If you forget your coupons, it’s ok!  Bring them in with your receipt within 7 days to redeem them.
  • If a BJ’s coupon is Buy One, Get One or Bonus, you may not use manufacturer coupons on the free item(s).  For example, in the November MemberSavings there is a coupon for “Buy One Lysol Wipes, Get One Free”.  You may use coupons on the first case of wipes (i.e. three $1/1 or one $1/2), but not on the second case that you are getting for fre
  • Overage is not allowed.  If your coupons total more that the total price of the item, you will need to remove coupons until your total is $0 or greater.  Coupons will not be adjusted down.  Example:  You buy a 3-pack of toothpaste for $8.99.  You have a BJ’s coupon for $3/1, and three $2/1 manufacturer’s coupons.  This would bring your total cost for the toothpaste to -$0.01.  You would not be able to redeem one of the $2/1 manufacturer’s coupons in this case.

Happy shopping!  Feel free to leave a comment if you have questions about the policy or certain shopping scenarios.
